The Delhi Government under the leadership of CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal has approved the extension of the existing Excise Policy for another 6 months. The decision was made to ensure the continuity of the existing excise regime, while the Excise Department formulates a new policy. The proposal regarding the said extension was approved by CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday.

The existing Excise Policy, which was set to expire on 31st March 2023, will now be valid until 30th September 2023. In addition to the extension of the existing policy, the government has directed the Excise Department to formulate a new Excise Policy at the earliest.

Furthermore, the government has also announced that five dry days will be observed in the national capital in the three months. These dry days will take place on account of Mahavir Jayanti on 4th April, Good Friday on 7th April, Eid-Ul Fitr on 22nd April, Buddha Purnima on 5th May, and Eid-Ul-Zuha on 29th June. During these dry days, the sale of alcohol will be prohibited to maintain the solemnity and sanctity of these occasions.
