Ending his 15-day upwas at Sundar Nagri today, Arvind Kejriwal declared that the core agenda of next Delhi elections would be bijli and pani.  He said that parties which cannot even ensure bijli and pani for its people, have no right to be in power. Declaring his fast as 15-day tapasya, he said the fast has been successful in achieving its target of removing fear from the hearts of people.

He said, “Congress and BJP is desh ki samasya ban chuki hai, aur Aam Aadmi Party iska samadhan ki umeed hai.” Reacting strongly to those who criticised his fast he said, “Satta ke bhuke log, 15 din tak bhuke baithkar tapasya nahi kar sakte.” He said that the politics of this country would no longer be run by crony capitalists but by people like those living in Sunder Nagri.

Arvind Kejriwal broke his upwas at around 4pm in Sundar Nagri today by sipping coconut water from the hands of 8-year old Neeru and two other children from Sunder Nagri. Addressing a large gathering at Sunder Nagri he said, “Delhi ki janta ko ye samaj aane laga hai ki Congress aur BJP ek hi sikke ke do pehlu hai. Congress party Ambani se milke bijli-pani ke daam badhati hai, aur BJP iska virodh karne ka natak karti hai.”

Promising to reduce the prices of electricity by half when Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) comes to power in November Arvind Kejriwal said, “Shiela Dikshit baar baar keh rahi hai ki unhone Delhi me 24 ghante bijli ki supply di. Ye Shiela Dikshit ke vajah se nahi, private companies ke vajah se nahi, balki isliye hai kyunki naye naye power stations bane hai. November me jab Aam Aadmi Party ki sarkar banegi, hum Delhi me bills adhe karenge.”

Emphasizing that CAG audits of all these firms would be conducted, he asked, “Shiela Dikshit kehti hai ki ye companiya CAG Audit nahi karva rahi hai. Kya Shiela Dikshit gulam hai in companies ki? Jab AAP ki sarkar ayegi, tab in sabka audit karvaegi. Agar ye companiya audit karvane se mana karde to inka license cancel karva diya jayega aur  take over kar liya jayega.”

On the question that private companies might file complaints against those who do not pay the bills he said, when AAP comes to power all such cases would be waived off. Warning the private companies not to harass people till November, he said if the companies do so then Prashant Bhushan has constituted a team of lawyers which would fight cases for the poor people free of cost.

Speaking about inflated water bills due to corruption, he said, “Kal DJB ke kai log aye the. Humne calculation ki to pata chala ki Delhi me 20 Kiloliter paani muft diya ja sakta hai. Iska kharcha karib 460 crore ayega. Ye 460 crore kaha se ayega? Delhi ke Malviya Nagar me thore din pehle 519 crore ka ek farzi theka diya hai. Nangloi me 3500 crore ka farzi theka diya hai. Ye 460 crore vaha se ayega. Delhi me hum 20 Kiloliter paani tak muft denge.”

In the last 3-4 months, our volunteers who have gone door-to-door have found that poor people are getting false and highly inflated water bills - poor people are being looted. When Aam Aadmi Party comes to power, we would waive off water bills, excluding that of very rich people. The money that is saved by curbing corruption in Delhi Jal Board would be utilised for this.

On his future plans for ensuring water supply in Delhi he said, “Delhi ke andar jal swaraaj laaya jayega .Delhi me itni baarish hai, paani ka sanrakshan karenge. Paani khud banayenge. Iska detailed proposal bana rahe hai.”

He said more than 10.5 lakh people had registered their protest against inflated bijli pani bills, which Shiela Dikshit had refused to accept. He said, “28 april ko Jantar Mantar par milenge. Shiela Dikshit apne 4 clerk Jantar Mantar par bheje aur ye letters collect karyave. Nahi to hum Shiela Dikshit ke ghar ke taraf jayenge, chahe police dande kyu na barsaye.”

Earlier in the morning today, Aam Aadmi Party activists restored power connections of more than 150 households whose connection was disconnected all across Delhi. From Kirari to Babarpur, from Trilok Puri to RK Puram - connections were restored in all parts of Delhi. In Naraina''s Sanjay Camp area, Ramakant Goswami (Delhi Cabinet Minister) and Congress Councillor Sandeep Tanwar came with 40-50 people and tried to scare people saying that they would have to face action if they re-connect the supply. The local people who had gathered there not only booed them away but also restored power connection of 3 jhuggis.

From morning onwards, rallies took off in more than 60+ vidhan sabhas, going street by street restoring power connections.

In Daryaganj, 20 year old Seema lives in a small shanty with 4 family members - all younger brothers and sisters. Since her parents expired she works as a domestic help and manages to earn around Rs 2000 per month. She received a bill of Rs 2400 last month. On non-payment, her connection was disconnected. AAP volunters today restored her connection.

In New Kondli area, Kumar Vishwas and Manish Sisodia restored connection of Mr. Param Hans, who had received a bill of Rs. 24000. He irons clothes for a living. His electricity had been disconnected for the past 5 months. When someone asked what if the power companies file an complaint against him, he said, "We hardly live a good life right now. What maximum can the power companies do? Put us in jail? No matter what I will fight and we will not pay the bill anymore. I am with Aam Aadmi Party now"

Though Arvind Kejriwal’s upwas has ended the aandolan against bijli-pani bills would continue. On April 28th we would assemble again at Jantar Mantar to deliver the letters to Shiela Dikshit.
