AAP Files Defamation Case

Copy of Defamation Notice

New Delhi: AAP today filed a defamation case against web portal ‘Media Sarkar’ and TV Channel 'Ïndia News' for carrying out a fake and malafide sting against us.

We will take the case to a logical conclusion and won’t allow anyone to tarnish our image. Please find attached a copy of the defamation notice. AAP leaders are also going to meet Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer tomorrow over the issue.

AAP also severely criticizes the unjustifiable action of Delhi Police which detained 8 of our volunteers who were detained from Pragati Maidan where India International Trade Fair is going on. They were arrested for roaming while they were donning AAP caps. We condemn this action of police as it is not illegal for volunteers or supporters to wear caps supporters while being in public place.

Meanwhile, in the past few days, AAP has witnessed several incidents wherein volunteers of our rivals are resorting to cheap tricks like posing as AAP volunteers and threatening people. They have tried everything from raking controversy regarding our funds to a fake sting operation. In the last few days, several incidents have come out where volunteers of our political rivals are posing as AAP volunteers - wearing our caps or with AAP stickers on their cars - are creating nuisance in their bid to defame us.

Some of the incidents that have come to light are: unknown people donning AAP caps distributing Rs 1,000 notes in Patparganj area, a car which had an AAP sticker carrying cash about which driver was reportedly not able to explain or about an incident where people donning AAP caps were threatening locals. We have nothing to do with such incidents. Instead it is all a conspiracy to defame us or mislead people about us. We neither believe in distributing money nor alcohol. Our volunteers are a motivated lot who are working with party selflessly to change the scene of Indian politics. We want to aware people against such incidents. We also request people that in case they witness any such incident, they inform police at 100 and also inform us on our helpline number 9719500606. AAP will then ensure that strictest possible action is taken against such elements who are trying to defame us by such acts.

Lastly, AAP also wants to clarify on reports that highlighted that Arvind Kejriwal has three voter cards. We want to state that while applying for a new card in Form 6, there is a section in which the voter needs to declare if he is already a voter in some other constituency. The Election Commission on its part has to delete the name of the voter from the previous place. Arvind Kejriwal while applying for his new voter Card, has declared his older card details in Form 6. It is now the duty of the election commission to change the voter list. AAP follows honest politics and will never do any dishonest thing like this.
